Liz + Dan wanted rolling landscapes, cozy time with their people, and a Guinness in hand—and somehow, their Ireland micro wedding day gave them all of that and more. Forever obsessed with couples who care about connection, not checklists. . . and I know you’ll be able to see just how much that impacted their experience as you look through these photos.
The butterfly effect is crazy y’all, because it was one little Pinterest photo that first led these two to me—and now I’ve photographed their wedding day in a place none of us had even heard of a year ago. It always blows my mind when small moments like these lead to forever ones; in this case, it led to the most magical micro wedding in Westport, Ireland, where L + D were joined by a small group of their closest people.
Almost everyone flew in from the States and stayed together in the dreamiest little cottage by the ocean. Dan sipped on pints of Guinness with his groomsmen as Liz sat down for her hair and makeup, next to a series of floor-to-ceiling windows where she could enjoy the incredible views as she waited. As the morning came to a close, she sat on the floor of a balcony on the edge of the cottage, finalizing her vows in her vow book with the gentle ocean breeze in her hair, admiring the stormy landscapes as much as she possibly could. Nothing brings you back down to earth, or helps you feel more grounded the morning of your wedding than a breath of fresh air—especially when that fresh air just so happens to be the cool, crisp, coastal air of Ireland.
The weather? Wild and unpredictable (hello, 30+ mph winds and literal sideways rain)—but it never once slowed us down. We leaned in, built the timeline as we went, and found magic in the in-between moments; the blink-and-you’d-miss-them moments that happened throughout the morning, on the car ride to a new location, or as we walked through the hills covered in rain.
Even though I’ve been to Ireland before, Westport was a totally new area for me. And that challenge—learning new light, adjusting to stormy skies, communicating poses mid-gusts—pushed me in all the right ways. It forced me to pay attention to the quiet backdrops just as much as the iconic ones we’ve all seen on postcards. . . and it reminded me that intention matters so much more than perfection.
Liz and Dan’s ceremony was the epitome of the phrase “dancing in the rain”—we all had to hold on tight to our umbrellas as we walked from our cars to their ceremony site, a gorgeous spot right on the coast. A few of their closest friends and family gathered around, standing in the wet sand with umbrellas overhead as Liz and Dan exchanged vows. Witnessing these two share such a special moment with the people they love most was such a gift, especially with the cinematic landscapes around us and the show Mother Nature was putting on. The way I see it, rain is ALWAYS good luck on your wedding day.
We split off from the group for a little journey into the hills, Liz and Dan running off onto the scenic road without a care in the world as newlyweds. I’m completely obsessed with the way Liz grabbed her dress and went off into the dirt, the mud, and the grass, totally down to get dirty and embrace the wild weather. The way the clouds blew ever so slowly through the hills, creating foggy, misty magic was unreal, y’all—especially with the wind blowing Liz’s dress all over the place as she and Dan danced, hugged, and celebrated.
We spent the rest of the evening exploring famous Irish spots, cozying up at a local pub where the owner literally toasted the couple, and soaked in the kind of joy you can’t script. Liz and Dan were just thrilled to be enjoying the Irish nightlife with their guests (who wouldn’t be?), cheersing to the big day and finally drying off after being out in the rain for so long! What a perfect way to end this adventure around Westport, snuggled up with the locals and experiencing the warmth and joy of Irish culture.
